INTELLIGENT LIGHTING: HERE AT PRACHT, THE FUTURE HAS ALREADY BEGUN

Lighting has an immediate impact on people. Enough light means brightness; the absence of light means darkness. Thus, people perceive lighting in terms of “bright” versus “dark”. Here at PRACHT, we know that this limited perception does not reflect the whole truth. Lighting design according to the concept of Human Centric Lighting (HCL) focuses on the people and their biological clock. It uses what we call “biodynamic lighting”. Human Centric Lighting intensively observes the circadian rhythm, considering the whole 24 hours from the beginning to the end of a day. It takes into account people’s performance curve.

WHAT IS THE SPECIFIC IMPACT THAT LIGHT HAS ON HUMANS?
In some way, daylight regulates people’s “internal clock”. The biological effect of light is often underestimated. Insufficient or wrong lighting can lead to sleeping disorders during the night and even depression. Furthermore, the body’s cell regeneration may deteriorate, and important metabolic processes can be slowed down.

BAD LIGHTING MAKES US LOOK OLD.
Circadian lighting design follows individualized optimization parameters. Age, activity, state of health, season of the year and time of the day are important. The good thing is, intelligent lighting yields measurable results!

Biological signals such as EEG, ECG, blood pressure and heart rate provide an indication on an improved lighting atmosphere. An increased overall well-being and vitality are an external manifestation of the optimized lighting ambiance.

THE MANY ROLES OF LIGHTING.
Good lighting has a multifunctional impact: It can stabilize people’s biological rhythm, improve their quality of life, strengthen their focus, create good learning and working conditions, reduce weariness and increase productivity. The influence that daylight has on the human body is enormous as lighting regulates the hormonal balance. Sentiments and behavior are strongly affected by melatonin (sleep hormone), cortisol (stress hormone) and serotonin (mood enhancer). To a large extent, all of that is determined by the lighting around us!

THE FIGHT AGAINST WORKING IN BIOLOGICAL DARKNESS
Research shows that when considering these aspects, the lighting situation especially at workplaces can still be improved. Even today, many people live and work in biological darkness. However, there is no single lighting solution that fits all places of work, which is mainly due to the very diverse environments and requirements associated with certain jobs. Office floors including working desks and fixed seat heights pose different challenges to lighting designers than industrial buildings with high shelves and high ceilings, in which cases the designer must put a strong emphasis on the precise alignment of the luminaires. One aspect of the solution to the various requirements is the so-called “Tunable White”. The term describes the adaptable control of the color temperature of LEDs, ranging from warm to cold white. But this is only the beginning since it allows us to define the light mixture by accurately determining the spectral composition.

The key to this new world of lighting is what we call spectral illumination using LEDs, a technology that will sustainably and noticeably improve our everyday life. Dynamic control mechanisms that regulate light intensity and color temperature are fundamental elements for the future of the lighting industry. Even today, PRACHT uses lighting technology that minimizes or prevents meat greying in the food industry.
